BioSlurm Training Workshop: Slurm Computing with AI Agents
1-2:30pm Tuesday, October 6th, 2026

This workshop provides a practical introduction to BioSlurm, the Slurm-based computing cluster available through BioHPC.

We will introduce the basic concepts of Slurm and demonstrate how to run computational analyses on a shared computing cluster. Topics will include submitting and monitoring jobs, requesting CPU, memory, GPU, and storage resources, using local scratch space, and running interactive and batch jobs.

A major focus of the workshop will be AI agent-assisted computing. Participants will learn how AI agents such as Codex, Claude Code or Claude Science can help translate an analysis task into appropriate Slurm job scripts, estimate computing resource requirements, submit and monitor jobs, troubleshoot problems, and manage analysis workflows. We will also discuss the role of user guidance and guardrails when allowing AI agents to interact with a computing cluster.

The workshop will include a hands-on session in which participants complete several small computational projects. Exercises will progress from basic Slurm job submission to using an AI agent to set up and run analyses on BioSlurm.
